The St Anne’s Choristers, as well as learning to sing sacred music and take part in the life of the church, also learn about music more broadly. Each month we have a Musician of the Month which could be a composer, performer or writer. This November we are listening to and learning about American clarinettist Benny Goodman.
During rehearsals in November we have listened to and talked about some of Benny’s most famous pieces of music. Choristers looked at a Benny Goodman fact file and answered some simple questions on a worksheet. We also gave choristers space to react to the music creatively and emotionally by drawing pictures or patterns, or writing some words inspired by the music.
The resources we used are available for you to download here and are free for you to copy and use with your own choir or music group. They would also be good for a youth club or fellowship group in church. Benny’s recordings are easily available to listen to for free on YouTube, Spotify or Amazon.
